In 1860, he was a laborer living with and/or working for shoemaker William Schoch in Hereford Township, Berks County. He stood 5' 8" tall and had brown hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Hubley Township, Schuylkill County August 19, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 9, 1861 as a private with Co. A, 50th Pennsylvania Infantry. He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer January 4, 1864, at Blaine's Crossroads, Tennessee, and honorably discharged with his company June 30, 1865.

He married Lucy Anna Rothermel January 28, 1866, in Northumberland County, and fathered Hannah Sevilla (b. 10/06/66), Rolandis (b. 07/06/68), Lorenzo (b. 1869), Isaac Monroe (b. 06/19/70), Anna Elizabeth (b. 01/02/73), Emma (b. @1873[?]), John (b. 1874), Charles Milton (b. 02/09/75), Amelia (b. @1876[?]), William Victor (b. 08/02/76), Sarah Ellen (b. 12/21/78), Nicholas Edwin (b. 1880), John Quincy (b. 06/09/82), Lucy Mary (b. 05/31/85), and Clayton Franklin. (b. 12/??/90). September 16, 1927, also reported as date of death.

His parents were Nicholas Adams, born 7/17/1802 in Berks Co., PA, died 7/21/1850 in Sacramento, Hubley Twp., Schuylkill Co., PA (burial unknown to me) & Sarah Ann (Hoffa) Adams, born 1804, death unknown to me. He is a brother to John Franklin Adams #15812224 & Isabella (Adams) Seltzer #19689600. Nicholas & Sarah had 13 children total.
