"But, this one thing I have
That no one can tear apart
Is the memory I hold of you
Close within my heart."

So, with memories so precious
We go forward day by day
Honoring the one we love
In a special way

Their presence will be missed
Their absence has left a void
But their deposit into our lives
Has left an undeniable joy

And as we live each day
Holding the gift of them in our hearts
We honor their very essence
A love that won't depart

Bertha "Toot" (Gates) Curtis was all about family. She cared for her own like no other. Her love was everywhere present and she was beloved by all especially by her brothers, as she alway strived to keep a "tight ship". They called her "Sarge" but it was an endearment not an accusation. Her granddaughter Kathleen spent many summers with her "Gram and Pomo" and she would take her around to all her cousins and they had many sleepovers at Aunt Toots. Bertha like to crochet and tat and LOVED Elvis Presley whom she called "my boy Elvis". She even went to a concert of his. She loved Coca Cola and going to McDonald's for a burger and fries. She enjoyed watching Guiding Light and As the World Turns. She was quite stylish in her younger days, could turn a leg so to speak and eventually caught the eye of Floyd H. Curtis and they were married in 1929. Towards the end of her life she went to live with her daughter Patricia in Massachusetts. She was a bright light in our lives and her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews . When I think of her I can only remember warmth, welcome, acceptance and unconditional love.

There is a hole in my heart in the shape of You.--Jewel--
