Patricia D. Ulrey
Patricia Deane Ulrey, 87, passed away Saturday July 23, 2011 at 10:20 PM at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, Indiana, where she had lived for 4 years.
Patricia was born March 9, 1924 in Columbia City, Indiana to James and Cora (Anders) Loe. Due to the death of her mother, Pat was raised by her aunt, Orpha Shepherd. On October 25, 1958 she married Paul Ulrey in South Whitley, Indiana.
Patricia was a 1943 graduate of Columbia City High School. She served as a WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in the US Navy and was stationed in Washington DC during World War II.
A homemaker, she was known to the neighborhood kids as Grandma Pat or Aunt Pat. She always put others before herself. During her last week, family surrounded Pat sharing stories of her life, how special she was to everyone and how she was greatly loved by her family and friends.
Left with memories to treasure is her husband, Paul Ulrey of Winona Lake; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law: Harold "Hal" and Diane Scott of Etna Green, Indiana and Paul James "Jim" Ulrey, Jr., of Warsaw. She is also survived by 6 daughters and their spouses: Jo Anne and Rick Jarrett of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Cindy and John Fisher of Bremen, Indiana; Sharon Sowers of Fishers, Indiana; Deborah and Kerry Ducker of Bloomington, Indiana; Ruth and Robert Voreis of Claypool, Indiana and Linda and Michael Getz of Warsaw. There are 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren who also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cora Loe, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 3 half-brothers, 1 daughter-in-law and 1 son-in-law.
Friends and family will gather in Titus Funeral Home to share memories and support each other Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 3-7 PM and one hour prior to the service. A celebration of her life will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2 PM in Titus Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Litfin officiating. Burial will follow at Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Silver Lake, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw's American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
