Richard migrated to Canada, in 1844, where he met Macy in 1847. Richard and Macy then migrated to America and went to Cook County, Illinois near Chicago soon to be in the Schaumburg township and lived near his brothers but he was the last of the 3 boys to come to the states. He moved his little family to Palatine, Cook Co, Illinois in 1869. In the 1870 census it said his occupation was a Blacksmith and his obituary stated he had an extensive acquaintance with the German population of the day. Most likely this was through the blacksmithing. Richard bought land in Fayette Co, Iowa for each of his children. After his death, Macy and Mabel moved there to be near them.
