Chester was the third son of Samuel and Grace Callihan. His childhood was spent in Millwood, Washington. Chester married Alice Johanna Hetle, daughter of Andrew and Jennie Hetle, on 9 Aug 1944 in Libby, Montana. They had one son, Gary.
