She was the daughter of Reuben and Elizabeth (Riddle) Corbin. The family moved to Hardy Co., Virginia before 1825. She married Valentine Campbell around 1824 or 1825, likely in Hardy Co. No record has survived. It is important to note that during the time that Charlotta lived in Hardy Co. the county was still part of Virginia. It became West Virginia in 1863. Census records show her name as "Charlotte" and give her approximate birth date as 1803 and 1805.

Valentine was a farmer and was looking for new land. The family migrated to Franklin Co., Ohio in the late 1830s and to Brown Co., Indiana in the mid-1850s. Charlotta was the mother of eight children: son, daughter, Joseph 1829, Reuben 1831, Rebecca A Kemp 1838, Elizabeth Fleener 1840, James V 1845 and Edward McDonald Campbell 1847.

She died in 1869. It is unknown where she is buried. But, in 1870 Valentine was living with his daughter Elizabeth (Campbell) Fleener who lived one mile west of Needmore on what is now South Shore Drive. Elizabeth is buried at the Brock Cemetery. Another possible burial place is Needmore Cemetery. There are two Campbells buried there; it is unknown if they are related to Valentine and Charlotta.

Elizabeth's Bible shows that she had "Indian blood in her". Since her father, Valentine, was Scottish and Ashkenazic, it is likely that her mother, Charlotta, was part Native American. Since the early Corbins were well-to-do, it is likely that either the Edgar or the Riddle family was the source of the Native American ancestry. Many descendants of Valentine and Charlotta have either black or dark hair and dark eyes. She may have been a relative of Moses Riddle who was born about 1715 in Hanover Co., Virginia. He was listed as an Indian and a Melungeon in the records. Hanover Co. is a couple counties southeast of Culpeper Co. So, there were definitely Indians in the area before Charlotta was born.

Despite her noble heritage, Charlotta lived a humble life. She and Valentine were very poor as evidenced by the 1850 Census. They were also illiterate as well. They moved west in search of better lives.
