ROGERSVILLE — McCauley Price, 76, died Thursday (April 8, 1999) at the VA Hospital in Johnson City, after a lengthy illness. A native of Hawkins County, he was a son of the late George B. and Hallie S. Price. He was retired from American Motors in Kenosha, Wis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 379th Heavy Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a prisoner of war for 16 months and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart among others. He was preceded in death by three brothers, McGlone Price, Jewel Price and Burnette Price. Surviving are two brothers, Gerald B. Price, Johnson City and McKay Price, Kingsport; one aunt, Edna Flack, Rogersville; one uncle, Houston Price, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
Following the services, Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military honors in Highland Cemetery.

Mccauley Price was a Sergeant in the Army during World War II. Mccauley resided in Columbia County, Georgia before enlisting on January 6, 1943. At the time of enlistment, Mccauley was 20 years old, had 1 year of college education and was single, without dependents. One year later, Mccauley was captured by Nazi Germany, and was sent to Stalag Luft 4 near Grosstychow, Prussia where 6,660 other American POWs were held. Mccauley's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on January 30, 1944, and the last report was made on June 9, 1945. Based on these two reports, Mccauley was imprisoned for at least 496 days (1 year and ~5 months). The average duration of imprisonment was 363 days. Ultimately, Mccauley was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
