Effie Sloan, 85,
Dies At Her Home
Mrs. Effie Sloan, 85, a Boone County native and resident most of her life, died Tuesday afternoon at her home, 219 North Park Street. She had been ill for the past six weeks.
Mrs. Sloan was the daughter of Hiram Walker and Elizabeth (Edlin) Huffman, both born in Putnam County. She was born November 8, 1885. On August 23, 1906 she wed William B. Sloan in Boone County, who preceded her in death on August 19, 1947 in Marion County.
Survivors include sons Myron Sloan, Norman Wayne Sloan and Jewel Sloan, all of Lebanon. Two sons Oren and George, are deceased, Another son, Winson, was killed in World War II in the South Pacific. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sloan was the last of a family of 13 children. She lived on a farm all her life until 10 years ago when she moved to Lebanon. She was a member of the Milledgeville Methodist Church, which her father helped build. She was a charter member of the Milledgevelle Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service. Well known in Boone County, she was noted for her devotion to her family and took great pride in her home. Although her life had not been easy, all who knew her remarked on her unfailing cheerfulness and indomitable spirit.
Funeral services will Friday be conducted at 2 p.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Howard Barefoot officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
