James Monroe Alexander was born in Alabama to William Asiel and Mary Hendon Alexander. He married Caroline Rebecca Gill on October 8, 1867.
They had 11 children, 3 of whom are buried in Providence Cemetery: Lake Edwin, William Asiel, and Edna Debose. James' parents and sister, Sina Carson Alexander Cromwell, are also buried here. (bio submitted by Carol Mahoney)

Hospl., Jackson, Miss., March 20th, 1862." Roll dated May 23rd, 1862, "Re-Enlisted at Edwards Depot May 23rd, 1862." Roll for May and June, 1862, "Present." Roll for July and Aug., 1862, "Discharged July 23rd, 1862."
