MRS. D. W. SCOTT LAID TO REST
Services for Resident of This Community Over 40 Years Held Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. D. W. Scott who passed away Wednesday were conducted at the Baptist church at 2:30 Friday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Geo. C. Hutto.
Horace Malin and Raymond Hall if Midland, Tex. accompanied by Mrs. Hall sang "Face to Face" and "Near My God to Thee." Interment was made beside her husband in the Liberal cemetery, the pall bearers being Ralph Heath, John Fuller, C. E. Howland, Paul Packer, Garrett Vassels and O. M. Nix.
Ella May Jackson was born in Oskaloosa, Ia, Mar 7 1867, later coming with her parents to Pratt county, Kansas. On May 26, 1884 (1894), she was married to David W. Scott and they established their home in Pratt.
In 1902 they came to Seward county and settled on a homestead 12 miles northwest of Liberal, where they resided for many years, and while there reared a family of nine children, eight of whom are living.
While residing in that community Mrs. Scott joined the Bethel Baptist church and while her home duties kept her from attending church as much as she would have liked, she exemplified a very beautiful Christian life in her home and in her community.
During the trying years of life on the farm Mrs. Scott experienced many perplexing problems and privations, but never did any one hear her complain or now her to be impatient. She had an ever ready source of strength upon which she always relied.
About 22 years ago the family moved to Liberal, where Mr. Scott passed away in 1930, since that time Mrs. Scott has made her home with her daughter Mrs. Margaret Sieber.
After moving to Liberal she placed her membership in the First Baptist church, where it remained at the time of her death.
Her health had been falling during the last few years and on Wednesday, April 18, at the age of 78 years, she passed to her reward. Her long journey had made her very tired and she was ready to go.
Of her immediate family she leaves to mourn her passing three daughters and five sons: Mrs. S. L. Stroud, Campo, Colo., Mrs. Margaret Sieber and Mrs. Elizabeth Hoskinson, Liberal; J. C. Scott, Bucklin, and Earl, Claude, Archie and J. P. Scott of Liberal. One son, Dr. Harry Scott of Hutchinson preceded her in death.
She also leaves one brother D. E. Jackson of Pratt, several grandchildren and a host of friends remain to cherish the memory of her well lived life.
