Randal Eugene "Randy" Applegate, 76, of Deaver Road, formerly of Salem, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:27 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility, with his wife Gail by his bedside.

Randy was a member of Garden City Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the National Guard for 25 years before retiring as a Sergeant Major and was a member of Columbus Police Department for 20 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1990. He was a shooting instructor for the police department and the National Guard.

He was a lifelong member of the NRA, an avid motorcycle rider, completed the Iron Butt Ride and was leader of the Whispering Eagles Motorcycle Club.

Randy was loved and will be missed by his children and many, many friends.

Born in Salem, Indiana, February 24, 1937, Mr. Applegate was the son of Elbert Lee Applegate and Maxine Charles Applegate. He married Gail Nading Nov. 25, 1970.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bryan Eugene (Michele) Applegate; daughters, Denise Applegate and Donna Lynn Applegate; a brother, Roscoe Ivan (Glenna) Applegate; a sister, Carol June (General) Potter; grandchildren, Christian Eugene Applegate, Madison Elaine Applegate and Alden Pierce Applegate; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin sisters.
