Cathern was born February 27, 1917 to Joseph and Mildred Bruce at Wasta, South Dakota. She attended Wasta School and graduated in 1935.
While working as a bookkeeper for the Rapid City Water department, she met and married Ralston Bailey on June 1, 1944. Ralston was stationed in the Air Force in Boise. When he was discharged, they moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Then in 1946, they moved back to Boise to live. A son, Bruce, and a daughter, Beverly was born from this union. Kay was a member of the Women of Moose since March of 1952.
Kay and her husband owned and operated Bailey's Landscape Supply until they retired in 1985. Then they spent their winters in Arizona and Florida.
Kay is survived by her son, Bruce Bailey and Jan Johnson, his sons and their families, Mark and Marci Bailey, Jim and Tammy Bailey, and Ryan and Lisa Bailey. Her daughter, Beverly McCall, and her sons and their families, Kevin and Karen McCall and Keith and Dawn McCall. She is survived by ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Beulah Bruce, and sister-in-law, Ruth Bruce, and brother-in-law, Norbert Mutchler, all of Rapid City, South Dakota.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralston, a sister, Wilma, and brother, Charles.
