James Hayden Burns, 78, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Booneville, to William Elton Burns and Ruth Boren Burns. He was a Baptist. He was a mechanic and auto body repairman. He enjoyed fishing, singing, woodworking and most of all, he loved the Lord and telling others about Him.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Gattis and Bro. Scott Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jane Shook Burns, whom he married on Nov. 26. 1969; two sons, John Burns (August) and Bradley Burns (Christy), all of Booneville; two daughters, Betty Ann Wood (Bobby) of Tishomingo and Balinda Moore (John) of Booneville; two brothers, R.B. Burns (Virginia) and Stanley Burns (JoAnn), all of Thrasher; a sister, Dean Harris (Maxel) of Booneville; seven grandchildren, Matthew Norris, Blake Norris, Douglas Burns, Andrew Moore, Coye Burns, Alex King and Mary Grace Burns; and his mother-in-law, Mildred Shook.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers are Frank Ryan, Billy Joe Copeland, Mark Shook, Larry Shook, Greg Burns and Richard Franklin. Honorary pallbearers are Mitch Campbell, Donald Thomas, Lee Dye, Chris Moreland, his six grandsons and Dr. Lydon Perkins.
