Ruby was raised in Brownville, She was a member of the Brownville High School in 1929.
Ruby was united in marriage to Ellis Douglas on Dec. 24, 1931 in Nebraska City, NE. . To this marriage five children were born.
They moved to Peru, NE. where she remained a resident the rest of her life. Ruby was a life time member of the Legion Auxiliary.
Ruby worked in the cafeteria at Peru State College from 1950-54. After 1954 she worked at the Danny Dare sewing factory. In 1978, she went back to the college to work and retired in 1990. She took great pride in Peru State College and had a life time pass to all of the home games. Ruby loved to travel and boasted to have been in or thrugh almost every state. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, canning, playing cards and dancing.
Due to ill health Ruby entered Good Samaritan in Nov. of 2010. It is there that on Thursday, August 9, 2012 she died having readched the age of 102 years, eight months and 23 days.
She was preceded in death by parents, 12 brothers and sisters, and four sons. Richard, Raymond, Lyle and Loren Douglas, and her husband Ellis in 1980.
Ruby is survived by her son Jack of Chase, KS; three daughter-in-law, Shirley Douglas and Judie Douglas, both of Peru, and Jeannette Douglas of Cedar Creek, NE., one brother Don Furnas of San Jose, N.M. 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral for Ruby Douglas was held Monday, August 13, at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, officiated by Dr. Robert Chitwood.
Pallbearers were Jerry Furnas, Jim Blex, Marty Hayes, John McConnaughey, Terry Reeves and Steve Adams.
Honorary pallbearers were Danny Cotton, Allan Adams, Jerry Sayer, Leslie Dean and JVirgil Robbins.
Burial followed at Mt. Vernon Cemetery near Peru, NE.
Hall Funeral Chapel of Auburn was in charge of arrangement for Ruby Douglas.
