RUFUS CLYDE COOPER, 74, of 1049 Springmill Street died Tuesday afternoon, August 21, 2001 at Mifflin Care Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Cooper was born October 3, 1926 in Warren, Arkansas living in the Mansfield area since 1959. He was retired from Carter Lumber of Ontario after 31 years. He was a member of Community Baptist Bible Church and active in the Ontario Lion's Club. Mr. Cooper was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Long Cooper; three sons and daughters-in-law, Don & Kim Cooper of Kent, Washington, Bob & Charma Cooper of Crestline, and Larry Cooper of Mansfield; a daughter, Ronda Cooper of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Hillary and Logan Cooper; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alex Cooper of San Antonio, Texas and Jerry & Dot Cooper of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a sister and brother-in-law, Reba & Mervin Clanton of Greenville, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph & Rosa Ida Carter Cooper; a brother, Earl Cooper; and a sister, Laura Herring.

Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Randall Collins. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
