Archie McLachlan, 69, died at his home in North Chippewa township, on Thursday, Oct. 1st, after a short illness. He left to mourn his death his wife and one son, Alex, and numerous relatives and friends. He had been a resident of the township upwards of fifty years, and was one of the upright and substantial citizens. Funeral was largely attended at the South Evart Free Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Perry Brown, disciple minister of Barryton, and interment in the Church cemetery. Archibald McLachlan, son of Duncan and Margaret McNiel McLachlan, was born Dec. 13, 1855 in Lambton County, Ontario, and died Oct. 2, 1925 at his home in Chippewa Twp., Mecosta County, Mich., aged 69 years, 9 months, and 19 days. In early childhood the family moved to West Williams, Middlesex County, Ontario. Here he grew to manhood on the farm home and attended school at Sylvan two miles distant. In the year 1880, he came to Michigan working variously and living with brothers and sisters until the year 1884 when he was united in marriage to Mary McClary, of West Lorne, Elgin County, Ontario. To this union was born one son, Russell, who died at the age of 11 months, and the mother following son after, death occurred April 23, 1886. He was again married to Margaret McCallum, July 31, 1895, who survives him with one son, Alexander. Also three brothers and one sister remain to mourn his death, who are, Donald of Chippewa; Mrs. Margaret McPhee of Detroit; and Joseph and Alfred of British Columbia. Funeral services were held Sunday, October at the South Evart Free Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. P. Brown of Barryton assisted by Rev. Linsicome, of Evart, conducting the services and interment was made in the church cemetery, Chippewa, close to his home which he loved so dearly. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased.
