1st Sgt. Marvin R. Lawson was a proud dad, papaw and great-papaw. He also was a very proud veteran to have served his country and fought in World War II and the Korean War. He was the distinguished recipient of many medals and awards for his heroism during both wars. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal and many more ribbons and citations. Marvin was retired as a guard from the gold vault. He was a faithful member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Purple Heart Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bertha Lawson; two sisters, Florence Gradel and Roxie Howard; and four brothers, Walter, Lester, Raymond and Sterling Lawson.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and David Hibbs of Vine Grove; a son, Bruce Lawson of Rineyville; five grandchildren, Ryan Barnard of Lawrenceburg, Melanie and Christian Witkovskie, both of Shelbyville, Stacy Harper of Georgia and Joshua Lawson of Elizabethtown; six great-grandchildren, Lily and Elijah Witkovskie, Taylor, Jonathon and Emma Jane and Dimitri; two sisters, Willa Bea of Rooker, Ohio, and Nellie Akers of Indiana; three brothers, Johnnie Lawson of Berry, Grady Lawson of Cynthiana and Clarence Lawson of Cynthiana; 10 nieces; and 16 nephews.
The funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Radcliff with the Rev. T.B. Smith officiating. Burial, with military honors, follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
