Mrs. Martin (Esther) Smedshammer, 62, of the North LaMoure community, passed away very unexpectedly Saturday evening. Esther Charlotte Haugen was born July 7, 1907, in Litchville, N. Dak., the daughter of John and Ellen Haugen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Litchville and received her education there. The family moved to the south of Litchville and she was confirmed in the High Prairie Lutheran Church.

On October 27, 1925. She married Martin Smedshammer in Moorhead, Minn. They had farmed in Litchvillle Township. Mr. Smedshammer passed away October 25th of this year.
Mrs. Smedshammer was a member of the North LaMoure Lutheran Church and the A.L.C.W. of the church. She had been active in many community organizations and held various offices.

Mrs. Smedshammer is survived by two sons, Delmar and Curtis both of rural Litchville, two daughters, Elaine, Mrs. James Hilscher and Maxine, Mrs. Leo Ohnstad both of St. Paul, MInn. Two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hodem of LaMoure, N. D., and Hazel, Mrs, Walter Sand of Everett, Wash., four brothers, Adolph and Harvey Haugen of rural Litchville, Clifford of Fargo, N.Dak.; and Eugene of Jamestown, and 12 grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, brother and granddaughter.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 2:00 p.m. from the North LaMoure Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Gunderson and Pastor Tom Mace officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Allen Hodem, Roger Haugen, James Haugen, Thomas Haugen, Ole Haugen and Lawrence Dick, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: Melvin Rorvik, Robert Rorvik, Clarence Willason, Kenneth Haugen, Henry Sand and Jens Karlgaard. Mrs. Dennis Anderson was the organist and Gilmore Hanson was the soloist. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercies of God rest in peace. Funeral arrangements were by Oliver’s Chapel of Valley City.
