Edna (Young) Johnson's Notes:
"Walter was the oldest son of Benajah and Violetta. He married first Catherine Learn and they had three children, John, Violetta and Katie. I vaguely remember two very old ladies coming to visit at our house when I was a child - Aunt Letty and Aunt Katie. Aunt Letty [Violetta] seemed very old, wore a small lace cap and smoked a corn cob pipe. Catherine died in 1821... On April 10th 1825 Jemima Carter married Walter Brown. She was 25 and he 34 years of age. Walter's first wife Catherine Learn had been a Quaker and after her death he became one too. He was a well educated man and became a Quaker minister. At the time of his marriage to Jemima he was working for Samuel Haight of Sparta one of the staunch Quakers of that community. He was known by all his neighbors as Uncle Sammy and lived to be a very old man. ... There was much liking and a mutual respect between him and Walter."
