FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT INDIAN GROVE FOR MRS. CLARISSA ALLEN
Mrs. Clarissa Allen of Laclede died Thursday at the home of her son, Charles S. Allen in Laclede, where she had made her home for the past nine years. She was 86 years of age. She was born Sept. 26, 1862 in Lebanon, Indiana, the daughter of Carter and Nancy DeWeese. She came to Indian Grove with her parents when she was five years of age. She made her home there until her marriage to Isaac J. Allen on Sept. 29, 1878.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband and four children. She is survived by eight children, Charles S. and Mrs. Edna Foster of Laclede, John and William Allen of Brookfield, Mrs. Cora Billups of Marceline, Mrs. Anna Waugh of Sumner, Mrs. Mary Miller of St. Joseph, and Robert Allen of Denver, Colorado.
She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Warren DeWeese of Louisiana, Missouri. In all 108 relatives survive.
Mrs. Allen spent most of her married life in the vicinity of Indian Grove and Sumner. When a young woman she joined the Indian Grove Christian Church. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Indian Grove Christian Church. Burial was made in the Powell Cemetery.

Mrs. Clarissa Allen, daughter of the Rev. Carter and Nancy DeWeese, was born Sept. 26, 1862 in Lebanon, Indiana. She passed away May 26, 1949 at the home of her son, Charles S. Allen in Laclede, where she had made her home the past nine years. She was 86 years and 8 months old.
She came to Missouri at the age of five with her parents and lived near Indian Grove until she and Isaac J. Allen were united in marriage on Sept. 29, 1878. To this union twelve children were born, four of who preceded her in death. Her husband passed away on May 21, 1939.
She leaves eight children, Charles S. and Mrs. Edna Foster of Laclede, John and William of Brookfield, Mrs. Cora Billups of Marceline, Mrs. Anna Waugh of Sumner, Mrs. Mary Miller of St. Joseph, and Robert Allen of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves 36 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, a total of 108 descendants. She also leaves one brother, Warren DeWeese of Louisiana, Missouri, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Mrs. Allen spent all of her married life in the vicinity of Indian Grove and Sumner. When a young woman she united with the Indian Grove Christian Church and remained a member until death.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Indian Grove Christian Church and burial was in the Powell Cemetey. The pallbearers were the same grandsons that bore their grandfather to his last resting place and the flower girls were the great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Clarissa Allen died Thursday at the home of her son, Charles Allen in Laclede. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Powell Church. Pallbearers were grandsons Russell Allen, Clyde Waugh, Clarence Billups, Ralph Billups, Earl Allen, and J.W. Allen. Burial was in the Powell Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen, whose maiden name was DeWeese, daughter of Carter and Nannie DeWeese, was born Sept. 26, 1862 in Lebanon, Indiana. She and Isaac J. Allen were married on Sept. 29, 1878 and eight children were born. Mr. Allen died in 1939.
Mrs. Allen leaves four sons, Charles Allen of Laclede, Robert Allen of Denver, Colorado, William Allen of Brookfield, and John Allen of Brookfield; four daughters, Mrs. Cora Billups of Marceline, Mrs. Edna Foster of Laclede, Mrs. Annie Waugh of Sumner, and Mrs. Mary Miller of St. Joseph. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
