John R. "Jack" Blaser, 80, of the Lakewood Hills Community of rural Ozawkie, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hopsital in Topeka. He was born December 27, 1932 at Jarbalo, the son of John and Elsa Freda Grafe Blaser. He was a 1952 graduate of Jarbalo High School and attended Washburn University. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean war, serving from 1951 to 1955. "Jack" worked as a custodial Officer at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth for 10 years and worked at the Army Field printing plant at Ft. Leavenworth for 10 years, retiring in 1971 after 20 years of Civil Service. He then worked at Biringer's Sporting Goods in Leavenworth for 17 years after moving to Jefferson County. He was a member of the Perry Christian Church, a 50 year member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge # 10 in Leavenworth and the Armed Forces Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a life member of the Byington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and an Associate Guardian of the Job's Daughters in Oskaloosa. He was a member of American Legion Bicentennial Post #225 in Ozawkie. He was married to Alice JoAnn Darrow on June 15, 1951 at Platte City, MO., she survives at the home. He is also survived by two sons, Jack Blaser, Ozawkie, Pat (Beverly) Blaser, Topeka, one daughter, Kathleen (Craig) Pedersen, Lenexa, two sisters, Dorothy Collins, Lansing, Louise Cade, Leavenworth, five grandchildren, Mark (Christen) Pedersen, Kansas City, Lori Pedersen, Lenexa, Kassi (John) Pressgrove, Topeka, Jessica (James) Bunting, Topeka, Amanda Blaser, Topeka,three great-grandchildren, Karla and Jaxen Pressgrove, Topeka and Ewan Bunting, Topeka. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Blaser and a sister, Frances Hyde. Cremation is planned. Inurnment Services will be at 12:30 PM, Friday, March 15 at the Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery. A Memorial Celebration of Life with Masonic Rites will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa (1220 Walnut/Hwy 59). Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the Memorial Services at the Funeral Home.
