Wayne Otis McConnell, 37 year old native of Macon County, died Thursday, May 6, unexpectedly in an Asheville hospital. Mr. McConnell was a resident of the Carson Community, was a Korean War veteran, and had been employed at the Franklin Hosiery Company as a knitter for 13 years.
He was the son of Harley McConnell and the late Viola DeHart McConnell and was married to Shirley Ann Dills McConnell, who survives.
Services were held Sunday, May 9, at the West Franklin Baptist Church, of which he was a member and a Deacon. The Revs. Dan Stiles, pastor, Ernie Sanders, and Wallace Tallent officiated. Burial was in the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ted Farmer, Dolan Bates, Thurman McConnell, Hershel Wilson, Ellis Ledford and Harold Moore.
Survivors other than the widow and father include two daughters, Sandy and Carol, of the home; one son, Dennis, also of the home; three sisters, Misses Dovie and Betty Sue McConnell, of Route 1, and Mrs. Gennell Fouts, of Route 3; one half-sister, Miss Virgie McConnell, of Route 2; two brothers, Wade McConnell, of Route 2, and Harley McConnell, of Franklin.
Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
