Al was born July 4, 1932, the son of Ben and Loretta (Enhoff) James. Al was united in marriage to the love of his life Iona Couch on March 22, 1953 in Mingo, Iowa at the First Methodist Church on a beautiful sunny day. Al and Iona were married for 60 years. He was a hardworking man and even the last few days Al was with us, when someone would ask him any hobbies he enjoyed doing his answer was always "work". Al was a lifetime farmer, and a man of "Jack of all trades". He was a farmer but also a dairy farmer for 7 years, farmed cattle, sheep and (Insert any other animals), he also drove a school bus for 9 years and after retiring Al took care of 14 lawns. Al was a member of the Marshalltown square dance club, Crew lanes bowling league, saddle club and was also a first responder. He was a true passion for family, work of any kind, western movies such as John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, wood working and bowling.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years: Iona; children: Ronald (Elaine) Hofer, Earl (Kathy) Hofer and Lorica Hofer; grandchildren: DeNae Warren, Nathan (Shannon) Hofer, Amber Grantz, Nicholas Hofer, Danille Hofer, Trey Hofer, Jeff Holt, Tim Holt, Jenny (Kenny) Herbert, Jamie Andrews and Kelly Andrews; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother Ben (Betty) Hofer; Bradley's wife and caregiver Lynda.
He is preceded in death by one son: Bradley, one daughter: Carol, one grandchild: Kelly; three brothers: John, Paul and Sam; two sisters: Rose and Marian; two step brothers: Clarence and Lewis and two step sisters: Helen and Bertha.
