DUBLIN — Rev, Charles 0 Bennett, age 89 of Dublin, went to meet his heavenly father on Monday, September 3, 2001 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center.

He was born on October 3, 1911 in West Virginia to the late Alfred H. and Edith Massey Bennett. C. O. Bennett was called by God to preach at the age of 27.

He was licensed to preach in 1940 and ordained by the Virginia Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1943. Rev. Bennett served as assistant pastor at White Sulphur, Caldwell, Bethel and Peniel; he served as pastor at Second Creek, Blue Sulphur, Peniel, Bishops Chapel, Mitchell Chapel, Shelton Chapel, Allisonia, Simpkinstown, Stafford Hill, Sylvatus, New Village, French's Chapel and Hilltop.

He retired as a pastor in 1975, but continued to work as an evangelist. Rev. Bennett's memory will be cherished by those he loved, especially his family and those he led to Christ by telling them about Jesus Christ, his one and only savior.

His wife Delilah B. Bennett of 67 years preceded him in death and a son, Marshall D. Bennett Sr. of Smithfield, Va. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dallas F. Bennett and two sisters, Madelaine Fogus and Mildred Wood.

Survivors include three sons, Charles O. Bennett Jr. and Bill R. Bennett, both of Radford and Jerry L. Bennett of Dublin; two daughters, Phyllis I. Simpkins of Dublin and Patricia L. Bishop of Pulaski; two sisters, Dorothy L. Scruggs and Lillian H. Sizemore, both of White Sulphur, W. Va.; three brothers, Alfred H. Bennett Jr. of White Sulphur, W.Va., Roy E. Bennett and Bernard F. Bennett, both of Maryland; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the French's Chapel Church with the Rev. Billy Akers, Rev. Don Sizemore, Rev. Kenneth Kingrea and Rev. Kenneth Fogus officiating., Interment will follow in the Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
