Theodore Speltz, pioneer Albert Lea grain man, died in an Austin hospital Wednesday. He was 98.
He was a native of Winona County.
He and a brother, Arthur, established the Myrtle Grain Co. at Myrtle in 1901. The business expanded into a 13-elevator operation in southern Minnesota.
Speltz moved to Albert Lea in 1907 and was active in business and civic circles for many years.
He helped established the Albert Lea Council of Knights of Columbus and was the organization's oldest living member in Minnesota.
Surviving are a son, Ralph, Albert Lea, and a daughter, Mrs. Laurinda McGann, McAllen, Tex.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Theodore's Catholic Church.
