The name on Laura's death record is incorrectly written as Elizabeth and her parents names are incorrect. The husband's name is correct. We believe that the funeral home used the death record to write the death notice and sent it to the newspaper. The last name was also misspelled.

Laura was a daughter of Henry and Miriam Schwab Cope. We located the death record of Laura's younger brother, Henry Elmer Cope, which also confirmed along with other records that Laura's mother was Miriam Schwab Cope, Henry Cope's first wife. We have not found records to prove whether Miriam and Henry divorced or Miriam died.

Laura J. Cope married John Hayburn on Dec. 15, 1889 in Vinton County, Ohio.

1910 US Census in Vinton County, Ohio
Ohio Marriages, 1789-1994; Family Search

Date of Laura's Interment: Jan. 28, 1942; Wallace Funeral Home in Glouster.

Laura's husband John, buried in Lincoln Cemetery, has a headstone with Laura's name and birth year on it, but no death date was added for Laura. She died 30 years later, so her children may have decided to bury her near her home in Jacksonville. She is listed in the Maplewood Cemetery records, but we have not yet found her marker. She is supposed to be buried next to her son, William, and he has only a little metal funeral home marker. If she had the same type of marker, it may be gone by now.
