Donald G. Law, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Greg Gabriel will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, with military honors provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be from Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion.

Donald Glen Law was born on May 17, 1931, in Sioux City to Glen and Hilda (Rock) Law. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, Iowa. He attended country school near his home at Pierson, Iowa. Don graduated from Pierson High School in 1948.

On September 2, 1951, Don enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He earned an honorable discharge on June 25, 1953.

In 1955 he married June Leonard at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville.

Don farmed for a few years and then became an insurance underwriter in Southeast Iowa. In 1968 he and Dana Vannorsdel formed the Meissner Insurance Agency in Pierson. In the early 1970s he moved to Le Mars and joined Harold Ruden to form Ruden-Law Realty. In 1983 Don attended auctioneer school and started Plymouth Auction Company with Ken Schlichte. He was also partner with Jerry Kurth in Creative Realty and a certified appraiser.

On September 17, 1986, Donald and Yvonne (Meske) Nielsen were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Don was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, where he had served on council. He was also a lifetime member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion and served as its finance officer for many years. Don was instrumental in the development and installation of the Plymouth County Veterans Memorial Park. He was also a charter member of the Korean War Last Man's Club and served as its chairman. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and a lifetime member of Sertoma. He also served on the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors for 10 years, along with numerous committees and community projects. Above all, Don rarely missed his grandchildren's school programs and sporting events.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Yvonne Law of Le Mars; his children, Kevin Law and his wife Andrea of Tucson, AZ, Kurt Law of Minneapolis, MN, Kirstin Law and her husband Jeremy Burdon of Phoenix, AZ, Sherri Permeswaran and her husband Permes of Le Mars, and Lori Heil and her husband Doug of Mobridge, SD; grandchildren, Lana and her husband Dan, Vijay, Palani, Katie, Yashila, Joey, and Kyle; great-granddaughter, Haley; a sister, Lois Frett of Banning, CA; a brother, Jack Law of Cedar Rapids, IA; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Law of Stillwater, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul; a sister-in-law, Darlene Law; and a brother-in-law, Ed Frett.
