Lillie Kester 321 Main St. had lived in Carthage for 26 years prior to her death. Her husband Landry Kester had preceded her in death. (He is not buried in Park Cemetery). She passed away at her home at 321 North Main St. at age 90 of heart disease. Burial was in Park Cemetery under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.

The informant on her Death Certificate was an her daughter Gertrude Kester, and she provided the names that Lillie was the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Bushnell Bump.

According to Lillie's great granddaughter Colleen Brewer Tanner, it should be noted that the family records written by Mary Jane Kester Lane Van Horn, (Colleen's grandmother) the correct names should be William H. Bump and Elizabeth "Betsy" E. Bump 03 Nov 2013

CARTHAGE WOMAN, 90, DIES
MRS. LILLIE KESTER IN ILL HEALTH TWO MONTHS

Aged Resident Passes at Home of Daughter, Mrs. M. L. Kester-Funeral Thursday


Mrs. Lillie Eleanor Kester, 90, a resident of Carthage more than 26 years, passed away at 3:50 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Kester, 821 North Main Street.
In failing health the last two months, Mrs. Kester's condition became more serious two weeks ago and for several days she had been gravely ill.
Mrs. Kester was born March 28, 1861 in Danville, IL., and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bump. She was married 73 years ago in Danville to Landry Kester and in 1885 they moved to Burbank, S.D. and later to Elk Point, S.D. Mr. Kester passed away in 1921 in South Dakota and in 1925 the widow came to Carthage and had made her home with the son-in-law and daughter here.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church .
Surviving Mrs. Kester are three other daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dow, Sturgis, S.D.; Mrs. Mary Van Horn, Sioux Falls, S.D. and Mrs. Mable Lane, Red Oak, Iowa; three sons, Carl Kester, Del Paso Heights, Calif.; F. C. Kester, Yankton, S.D. and F. L. Kester, Niles, Calif. and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Ulmer Funeral Home. The Rev. H. C. Bass, D.D., pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
