BRONTE - Joe Dorman ''Binks'' McCutchen, 73, died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his home. The son of John Edward and Daisy Esther McDorman McCutchen, Mr. McCutchen was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Coke County near Robert Lee.

He attended Robert Lee schools before joining the Navy, where he served in the Pacific during World War II.

Binks married Geraldine Lasswell of Bronte on May 30, 1945, in San Angelo. He was a lifelong Coke County rancher and the couple made their home on the ranch and in Bronte for the next 53 years.

Mr. McCutchen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bronte, where he served as an elder for several years and as a Methodist youth fellowship counselor. He enjoyed working with youth, and was a 4-H adult leader involved with livestock show projects, the 4H horse club and playdays.
He donated the land for the county 4H rifle range.

Mr. McCutchen is survived by his wife, Jerry; one daughter, Sharon and her husband, Steve Kelton of Bronte; grandsons, Shea Kelton of Bronte and Shane Kelton and wife, Stacy, of Jayton; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kourtney Kelton, both of Jayton.

Mr. McCutchen was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon McCutchen; and three sisters, Marylou Salvato, Gayle Britt and Marjorie Conoly.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Marilyn Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Winston Modgeling, LaDrew Arrott, Alonzo Robbins, R.T. Caperton, Elmer Hurley and Keith Lofton.

Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home.
