Hazel Irene Eshleman, age 97, a resident of Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport, Md., and a former resident of Greencastle, Pa., died at 1 a.m. Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Homewood.

Born October 18, 1907, in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late S. Harvey and M. Margaret (Shuman) Eshleman.

She was a 1926 graduate of Greencastle High School and a graduate of the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in Hagerstown. Mrs. Eshleman worked for a number of years as a registered nurse. During World War II, she was active in Civil Defense activities in Antrim Township and served as a nurse with the emergency medical teams. For many years, she was an employee of Carl's Drug Store of Greencastle.

She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ of Greencastle, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Eshleman was also a member of the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing Alumni and a member of the Homewood Retirement Community Auxiliary.

Her husband, Irvin G. Eshleman, died November 24, 1974.

Mrs. Eshleman is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou Colbath of Orono, Maine; a sister, Annis E. Sisler of Homewood Retirement Community; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Weaver Eshleman of Greencastle, Pa.; her grandchildren, Julie Eshleman Fenley of Ambler, Pa., Sean Christopher Colbath of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Amy Catherine Kryder of Beltsville, Md.; and four great-granddaughters, Megan Anne Fenley, Anna Zoe Kryder, Sofia Grace Kryder, and Allison Jane Fenley.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Eshleman, in 2003, and a great-grandson, Samuel Robert Kryder, in 2001.
