Mr. Elmer I. Eshleman, 86, well-known retired bank executive, of 4 East Church, St., died at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Eshleman started his career in banking in June 1917, and for the first 15 years had been employed by Pennsylvania banks. He had been employed in Williamsport, MD, from 1932 to 1934, at which time, he moved to Frederick and was one of the organizers of the Western Maryland Trust Company. He was the chief executive officer of the bank until its merger with Maryland National Bank on Oct. 1, 1968. With the merger with Maryland National Bank, Mr. Eshleman was elected as a vice president.
Mr. Eshleman served two terms as vice president for Maryland of the American Bankers Association, and was a member of many other committees of the Maryland Bankers Association.
He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Chapel of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jargen Hilke officiating.
