Mr. Egbert was born Sept. 20, 1926 at Murtaugh, Idaho, the son of Albert Leroy and Lydia Ann Tolman Egbert, in an old railroad shack that was used as their home. He grew up in Murtaugh where he attended his schooling, graduating from Murtaugh High School.
He married Nancy Zulema on May 27, 1946 at Murtaugh, the marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in a two-room house on the family farm in Murtaugh while waiting for the opportunity to draw a farm unit in the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project near Connell, Washington.
They made their home there and farmed 500 acres for 27 years until at the age of 65. He retired, moving to St. George, Utah, where they resided until 2007 when they moved to Rexburg, ID.
Besides farming, Burl enjoyed square dancing, garage sales and making arrow heads.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Rexburg; two sons, Sid (Barbara) Egbert, Canyon Lake, CA, and Dan (Cindi) Egbert, Connell, WA; one daughter, Lisa (Kurt) Papenfuss, Rexburg, ID; 11 grandchildren, Jared (Catrina) Egbert, Aaron Egbert, Paul (Sara) Egbert, Chad (Stephanie) Egbert, Brandon (Tricia) Egbert, Jade (Josh) Andersen, Camille (Luke) Mecham, Kristie (Evan) Steel, Kailey Papenfuss and Caleb Papenfuss; and 12 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and a granddaughter, Mylea Egbert.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday Feb. 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Valley View LDS Church with Bishop Mark Nye, officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery under the direction of the Bidwell Funeral Home.
