Gysbertje (her Dutch name) was the second child of Teunis Albertus "Albert" and Egie (deJong) Tysseling. Her siblings were Hendrika born 1869 who died young in 1871, another Hendrika "Reaka" born 1871, Pieternella 1873, Wilhelmina "Minnie" born 1874, Peter born 1877, Antonia born 1880, Herman Martinus born 1883. All the children in this family were baptized in the First Reformed Church of Pella.

The family lived on several farms in Black Oak Township in Mahaska County Iowa. They raised wheat, corn, oats, Irish potatoes, hay, rye and made molasses, butter and cheese. They also had chickens, horses, cattle, and swine.

In 1892 Gysbertha married Brant, son of Antonie and Alieda "Ellie" (De Bruin) Ver Meer. Brant was from a farming family as well.

Gysbertha and Brant continued farming and raised their children in the Mahaska area. Their children were -

Antonio "Anton" born 1893, married Johanna Kolenbrander in 1917 and died 1974.
Albert T. born 1895, married Jennie Van Heukelom in 1821 and died 1981.
Morris H. born 1899, married Katie Vroom 1924, and died 1995.
Edward born 1902, married Dena Kolenbrander 1927 and died 1987.
Jacob A. born 1910, married Alyce Margie Zylstra 1935, and died 1995.

By 1930 Gysbertha and Brant were living in Pella where they lived out their days. Gysbertha was 92 when she passed away.
