George Hartley Lloyd was born 10 Sep 1861 in Meaford, Grey, Ontario, Canada to Edward and Carolina (Parker) Lloyd. Note the discrepancy with the headstone. He died 19 Apr 1929 in his home San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Here is his obituary
"Died Friday [George H. Lloyd]", The Zanesville Signal, Wednesday, 24 Apr 1929 (P11:C4-5).

Died Friday
Reuben Parks, Sharon [Ohio], received word Tuesday morning of the death of hise [his] father-in-law, George H[artley]. Lloyd, 74, which occurred Friday, Apr 19, at his home in San Gabriel, Calif, following a lingering illness due to paralysis.

He is survived by his widow [Mary Whitley], one daughter [Ellie], Miss [sic, should be Mrs.] Reuben Parks, Sharon [Ohio], four sons: J. H. Parks [John Hartley Lloyd not Parks], Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; Brose [Ambrose Whitley Lloyd], Ted [Charles Edward], Cecil [Cecil Strathmore] of the home.

Funeral held at the home Saturday at 3 o'clock, burial in San Gabriel cemetery.

Mrs. Parks and son Malcolm, had been with her father for two weeks prior to his death.

mlloyd note:
N.B.: The daughter listed is Ella "Nellie" G. Lloyd (Mrs. Reuben Waldo Parks) of Sharon, Ohio and is correctly listed as Parks but should be Mrs. not Miss. The sons, moreover, should certainly all be LLOYD not PARKS. Here we have: John Hartley "J. H." Lloyd (m. 1921 Mabel Estella Huseby) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; and three sons of the home, San Gabriel: Ambrose Whitney "Brose" Lloyd (m. 1924 Ruth May Gossman); perhaps Charles Edward "Ted?" Lloyd (m. Gladys Bunn); and Cecil Strathmore (m. 1931 Frances Marie Hovey).

However, Charles may have died previously. The couple certainly have a son Clarence Frederick Lloyd who is listed as "Fred" not Ted. Is the obituary in error?

GEORGE HARTLEY LLOYD

George Hartley Lloyd, one of the pioneer homesteaders of Alberta, is now a prominent resident and business man of Strathmore, where also he has the pioneer distinction of having erected the first building on the townsite, and the youngest of his children was the first child born in the town. He has spent twenty-five years in the Northwest, and has witnessed all the remarkable development in this country, and himself has been a not unimportant factor in this progress.
Mr. Lloyd was born in the town of Meaford, Gray County, Ontario, September 10 1859, a son of Edward and Arline (Parker) Lloyd. His father was a merchant tailor who died at Landgdon Alberta in 1891 [14 JUL 1890]. The mother passed away in 1906. Mr. Lloyd was educated in his native town of Meaford, and continued to live in the East until 1887, in which year he came West and took up a homestead at Cheadle. He performed the labors of transforming raw land into improved farms, and remained on the homestead until 1894. He than removed to a ranch a mile and a half from Langdon, and lived there and engaged in ranching until 1906. On December 21 of that year he located on the spot that has since become Strathmore. The townsite had not yet been surveyed. At the corner of what is now Railroad avenue and 2nd street he erected a building and established a general store as the first business enterprise of the village. In 1908 Mr. Lloyd built the King's Hotel, and has since been the proprietor of this popular hostelry. When the village of Strathmore was incorporated in the fall of 1908, he was chosen to the first Council, from which he resigned after one year. In 1908 also he was appointed Commissioner for taking oaths. He is an influential and public-spirited citizen, and during his long residence in Alberta has contributed much to the permanent prosperity of this country.
He was married in January, 1887, to Miss Mary Whitney. To their marriage six children have been born, namely: Ambrose, Clarence F., Charles E., John, Ella and Cecil Strathmore, he last being the first native of Strathmore. Mr. Lloyd is a liberal in politics. His church is in the Methodist, and he is affiliated with Strathmore Masonice Lodge, No. 53.
