Eugene Judd, age 86, of Leakey, Texas passed away July 5, 2012 in Fredericksburg, Texas, due to complications from pneumonia. He was born in Big Spring, Tennessee on November 30, 1925, the oldest of eight children of John and Jannira Grubb Judd.

Eugene spent his childhood in Tennessee and lived through the difficult years of the Great Depression. He was raised for a few years by his Grandparents Jacob and Mary Tennessee Rice Grubb because of the extreme hard times his parents experienced. Eugene joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served on a Light Cruiser, the USS Portland, known affectionately as the "Sweet Pea." He was an electrician and lived through many harrowing Kamikaze attacks. Eugene returned to civilian life and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He retired after 34 years and then began a career in Real Estate in Corpus Christi and Leakey. Eugene's most prominent characteristic was his love of people, animals and trees. He loved to visit, always appreciated a good joke and was grateful for the people in his life. He was also a real card! He was an optimist who exuded charm, empathy and had a big heart for people who needed help. Even in his final illness, he remained fun-loving and grateful for the visits he received.

Eugene was Past Master of Leakey 622 A. F. & A. M. and Past Patron of Leakey Chapter 18, Order of the Eastern Star.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Bea Burrier Judd and his two children; Patrick Judd and wife Laura of Austin, TX and Mary Judd Couteau and husband Mark of Corpus Christi, TX. He is also survived by his stepchildren; Paul Burrier and wife Pat of Leakey, TX, Helen Large of Houston, TX, Lynda Kay Bryce of Houston, TX, Paul Worley of Corpus Christi, TX, Joyce Worley Graham of Bandera, TX and Peggy Worley Burnezky of Utopia, TX. He is survived by his sisters, Millie Swafford and Wilma Copeland and his brother, Stanley Judd all of Tennessee. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eugene was predeceased by two wives and one son; Marilyn Lynch Judd, Eloise Worley Judd and Brian Judd. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jake Judd, Wesley Judd, Delano Judd, Jack Dempsey Judd and Julian Judd.

Visitation was held Saturday, July 7th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Leakey, Texas and funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Leakey with burial following in the Leakey Floral Cemetery with services by the Leakey Masonic Lodge 622 and Military Honors were performed by, American Legion members of the Miles James Post 489 of Leakey.

Pallbearers were, Todd Large, Drew Large, Darien Large, Stephen Kobdish, Justin Nevill and Steven Couteau.

Honorary Pallbearers were, Charlie Longanecker, David Hassel, Diane Foshee, Gus Evers, Larry Carter and his friends in the Church Choir.
