Lena's mother died in 1899. She kept house for her father for a year after the death of her mother. Then she attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska for a winter term. She then went to work as a seamstress in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lena married J.K. Jensen on 17 May 1912, at the Lutheran Parsonage, in Audubon, Audubon Co., IA. They became the parents of the following daughters: Karen Elna Kristine Jensen, married to Edward Steen; Thelma Marie Jensen who died in 1927 at the age of 12; Helga Mathilda Jensen, the wife of Leonard Jensen; Ruth Lillian Jensen, the wife of Leroy Lumby of Phoenix, AZ; Betty L. Jensen, the wife of "Barney" Virgil Christensen of Exira, IA; and Esther Mae Jensen, the wife of Byron Schlotzhauer of St. Louis, MO, and later of Florida.

Lena was an aunt of Herb Hansen, the younger sister of his mother. Herb came to Audubon to work in the slaughter house, work on the meat-cutting ring, and as a meat cutter in his uncle J.K. Jensen's grocery store.

Lena and J.K. Jensen, and Herb Hansen resided in Audubon the remainder of their lives.
