Robert W. Hilton Succumbs to Illness At Bradford Home
Was Well Known In Nation as Leader In Chemical Industry
Hon. Robert W. Hilton, 78, widely known figure In the wood chemical Industry and a former State Assemblyman, died Friday night at 11:20 o'clock at his home. 152 Congress St. Bradford, after a serious illness of three weeks.
Mr. Hilton was born in Hornell, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hilton, who moved to Bradford to become prominent in the early development of that area.
Associated with many charcoal and chemical plants in this section throughout his life, Mr. Hilton was president of the Penn Charcoal and Chemical Co., East Smethport, and the Morris Chemical Co., Morris, Pa.
During the various stages or his career. Mr. Hilton was associated with the Newton Chemical Co. of Newton, the Smethport Glass Co. which later became the Camp Glass Co., the Allegany Window Glass Co. of Port Allegany, and the Smethport Chemical Co., which was eventually sold to the Quinn interests of Olean.
Mr. Hilton served two terms in the State Legislature and one term in the State Senate, prior to the end of the first World War.
He was actively interested in the progress of McKean County and for many years served as president of the McKean County Fair Association.
Surviving are a sister, Miss Margaret Hilton, and a brother, John M. Hilton, both of Bradford.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home. The Rev. Paul H. McKee, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated. Burial was in the family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Bradford.
Honorary pallbearers were F. D. Gallup, George Simpson, J. Albert Cleveland, Robert Digel, O. Albert Johnson, Gustave Cable, H. G. German, James Connelly, D. L. Dennis,
Manfred Johnson, Harry Parker, Emil Johnson, A. W. Johnson, Andy Anderson and Joseph Kervin.
