Spanish Poet and Playwright. He was born in Cadiz, studied law at the university there, spent most of his life there and died and is buried there. He was appointed to the position of Director of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language. Many of his writings have a religious theme, and several of these have been filmed, notably "Loyola, the Soldier Saint" (1949). In the same year, he collaborated with Manuel de Falla on the film of "El Amor Brujo" ("Love, the Sorcerer"). He is buried next to de Falla in the crypt of the Cathedral. The inscription on his tombstone may be translated as, "Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece," and the insignia of the Order is depicted thereon.
