Willam Law, of Stevensville, who has been seriously ill at the Lakeview Hotel since Thursday afternoon, died Monday at 6:40 am. He was unconscious several hours before the final call. Last May Mr. Law suffered from a severe illness at his home in Stevensville and from this he never fully recovered. Last Thursday he was in town and attended the Elks picnic at Twin Springs, but during the day complained of feeling ill and returned to St. Joseph early. Here he was taken worse and conveyed to the Lakeview hotel where Dr. Scott and Misa West, as nurse, assisted by her sister, Dr. West, gave the patient proper attention and care. Friday an operation lasting several hours was performed for obstruction of bowels and stranulated hernia.

William Law was born Jan. 31, 1841, at Nauvoo, Ill. He spent his early life in Wisconsin, returning later to Chicago, where he practiced law and had charge of the Northwestern Life Assurance Co. for about twenty years. While with this company he was given the honorary title of "Judge" and this is why he was called "Judge Law".

Jan. 9, 1868, he was married to Miss Katherine Zimmerman, daughter of the late H.W. Zimmerman, of Chicago, who with an adopted daughter, Miss Genevieve Law, survive.

Deceased was a member of Ashler Lodge, No. 308, F. and A.M. Chicago and No. 19, K.T. Chicago, also a member of a Chicago lodge of Elka.

Services wer held Monday evening at 8 o'clock from Baitinger & Kingsley's parlors, Rev. L.R. Vercoe officiating, after which the remains were taken by boat to Chicago, with interment at Shullsburg, Wis., where he had expressed a wish to rest beside his parents.
