John Fleming lived a short life – he died on 5 July 1893, in Grenville, Kitley Township, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada, after an eleven month battle with tuberculosis (then called "Consumption"), this just five months after his youngest daughter Mary Monica died of the same disease. He was only 38 years old.
