* 1914 Obituary - Decatur County Journal, Decatur, Iowa - October 22, l9l4 - WADE HINTON FULTON, son of WILLIAM and ELIZA FULTON, was born in Fayette County, Ohio, April l4, l830, and died at his home near Leon, October l3, l9l4, age 84 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was married to HARRIETTE TOMLINSON December 25, l850. To this union were born twelve children, five of whom have preceded the father, seven are living and were with him in his last hours. The living are TARLTON P., WILLIAM J., ALPHA T., WADE A., ALONZO, JEFFERSON and MRS. C.P. BEAVERS. These with the aged companion and twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and old friends, are left to mourn his departure. He enlisted in Co. K. 30th Iowa Infantry in l862 and was mustered out in l865 as a first sargeant and his record was that of true soldier and in later years always ready to help a comrade or neighbor. He was a man of large heartedness, loved by his family and neighbors. Himself and wife moved to Washington County, Iowa, in l857, and from there to Decatur County in l870 and has made his home near Leon ever since. Funeral service was held at the late home, the l4th, conducted by Rev. Charles W. Reeder. Music by a male quartette composed of Will Gardner, Floyd Cozad, Ed Kemp and Charles Simpson. Many of the friends of the family were present and followed the remains to the Leon Cemetery. Members of the G.A.R. were pall bearers and many of the old comrades were in line showing the high regard that he was held in by the Grand Army of the Republic. Thus another pioneer and defender of his country has answered the last roll call. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the aged companion and children. May God sustain them in the hour of sadness.
