Ivan F. Seifert, age 95, passed away on January 13, 2013. Born on October 12, 1917 in Barberton to Edward M. and Amelia (Youngblood) Seifert, Ivan was a resident of Norton for over 60 years. Retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. after 38 years of service, Ivan was a charter member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church where he was a former Eucharistic minister and server. He was a member of the Holy Name Society where in 1999 he was awarded Man of the Year from the Northern Deanery. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving in WWII, Ivan was also a member of the Doylestown American Legion Post 407 and former member of Doylestown Senior Citizens. Unable to finish high school because of family commitments after the death of his father, and his service obligations during World War II, he was awarded a high school diploma from the Norton Board of Education in 2002. Ivan was an avid vegetable gardener who like golfing and traveling. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rev. Raymond Seifert C.P.P.S., Richard, Donald, and Robert Seifert; sisters, Evelyn Petit, Ruth Oser, Miriam Seifert; he is survived by his wife of 66 years Rita; children, Patricia (Steve) Raumberger of Norton, Edward W. (Karen) Seifert of Hartville, Jeanne (Tim) Nikles of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Nicole (Joseph) Spoonster, Kathleen (Jonathan) Wills, Major Philip Raumberger, Brenda (Steve) Palinkas, Christina (Greg) Humble, Julie Nikles, Trevor Nikles; great grandchildren, Delaney and Coben Spoonster, Adysen and Ayden Wills, Ian and Ella Palinkas, Reagan Humble; sisters, Helen Petit and Janet Paridon both of Doylestown, Marita (Robert) Zupke of Akron, Carol (Richard) Hoover of Treasure Island, FL, Joan (Richard) Wehling of Pittsburgh; many nieces, nephews, and other family. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton, 44203 with Fr. James Maloney, Celebrant. After a luncheon immediately following Mass, burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker and Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, 44230.
