He appears aged 10 years, evidently as an orphan, in the 1860 household of his aunt, Eveline (GIDDINGS) RULE COWDERY at Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.
J. A. PRANGLIN married 24 MAY 1877 in Frio County, Texas, to Bessy HENNING. [Note: her memorial shows her as Bessie Clara - it was the daughter who was Bessie C. I believe the wife was perhaps Julia Elizabeth "Bessie" HENNING.]
The 1880 census of Frio County, Texas, shows: John A. PRANGLIN (aged 30 years, born in Georgia, father in England, mother in South Carolina; county clerk), with wife Julia E. (20 MS OH IN) & son John L. (1 TX MS OH [sic]) & Bessie C. (7 months, born in Oct. TX MS OH [sic]; also John A.'s sister Annie E. COATS (32 GA Eng SC, school teacher) an evidently her two children, Alfred H. (8 GA GA GA) & Almarim [?] (female, 6 GA GA GA).
The 1900 census of Justice Precinct #1, Pearsall, Frio County, Texas, shows: John A. PRANGLIN (born Jun 1850 GA, father England, mother Virginia; county judge) & wife Bessie (Oct. 1860 MS PN MS); they had been married 23 years, and she had borne 6 children, all still living and present in the household (all born in Texas and all unmarried): John L. Tommy Craig, Contributor #47569385, reports that John's middle initial "A." stands for "Andrew."
