They were the parents of Mecie Ann Burks Carroll, John Brinkley Burks, Silas Asberry Burks, Joseph William Burks, Thomas Jefferson Burks, James Henry Wilson Burks and Dock Edward Burks. About 1863 the family moved from Henry Co Ga to Fayette Co GA. Permelia Ann died there on 1 Sept 1881.
His second marriage was to Martha Emma Gilbert. They were the parents of Lelia Octavia Burks Martin, Rev Gilbert Cleveland Burks, and Emma Lenora Burks Bennett. The family was living in Cullman Co Al by 1892.

Mr Wm Burks died at his residence near Holmes' Gap, this county, last Friday night, aged about 69 years. He was a highly respected citizen, a christian gentleman, and a worthy member of the Masonic fraternity, by whom he was buried at Mt Zion Cemetery, Sunday evening last, in the presence of a large concourse of his neighbors and friends. Mr Burks leaves a large family to whom we tender our sincere sympathy.
