I've been researching my families for over 40 years. Currently, I'm trying to scan & share a large collection of old family photographs and documents that have come to me from various relatives, mostly my late grandmother.
As I scan & prepare the photographs, I'm trying to post as many as possible to findagrave for others to enjoy. Especially the very old ones. Some that are labeled are not of known family connections so I'm also researching the names in an attempt to identify them.
One that I am very proud of is Jesse Elton McEwen, buried at Palms Woodland Cemetery, Miami-Dade Co FL. It took a fair amount of research to figure out that he is probably not related, but simply a neighbor of an ancestor in Carroll Co GA. I've created a memorial for him with the information I collected. I also restored his photograph using Photoshop. (See both before and after.) Please visit his site and show him some love.
Another memorial that I'm very proud of is for my ancestor, William Francis Marion Nobles, who died as a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas IL. His final resting place is Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook Co IL. Please visit him also.
I hope you enjoy visiting my paternal great grandfather, Hilburn Whit Hulsey. My maternal grandfather, Rev Virgil Sizemore, preached his funeral before there was a family connection. My parents were only 10 years old and I don't think they met until a few years later. If you know any of the people mentioned that aren't linked, please let me know.
If you appreciate the storytellers, you will enjoy visiting the page of my distant cousin, James Walter Estes, one of the best! My favorite from him concerns the 1887 funeral of another distant cousin, John Jacob Bauknight. It became known locally as the Tanners Church stampede.
The pallbearers & escorts for my Hulsey cousin-in-law, William C Sanders, is essentially a Who's Who in the reconstruction of Atlanta and were instrumental in making it the great city it is today. Scroll down his obituary from the Atlanta Constitution and click their links. Many of them have bios.
Surnames I'm connected to include: Adair, Ashworth, Barnett, Beam, Black, Burks, Cates, Clore, Crow, Dickson, Dunson, Estes, Gilbert, Hendrix, Hulsey, Leathers, Lowe, Lyle, McBrayer, McGlathery, Meadors, Mobley, Mote/Motte, Nobles, Pate, Parr, Pinson, Reid, Sanders, Simonton, Sizemore, Stanford, Steele, Stephens, Tomme, Vining, Waldrop, Williams, and others.
Places I'm particularly connected to include: Laurens Co SC, Henry & Clayton Co GA, Carroll & Haralson Co GA, and Blount & Cullman Co AL.
As of 12:30 pm on 20 Aug 2018, I will be much less active due to the death of the "old" find a grave, which occurred in the middle of uploading a photograph to the memorial of Wade Hampton McGee. It almost seems fitting since he was also murdered. [Dec 2020 - OK, maybe the changes aren't so bad now that I've gotten comfortable with them. I'm just as active.]
