MELVIN M. WASHINGTON — KEYSER — Rev. Melvin M. Washington, 76, of 441 Ward Avenue, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland.

A native of Westernport, Md. He was the son of the late Charles and Sarah (Wilson) Washington.

Rev. Mr. Washington was a former pastor of the Walden United Methodist Church of Piedmont, and had previously served as pastor at churches in Morgantown, Gration, Romney, Petersburg, Moorefield, Williamsport and Keyser. He was also a retired loading foreman at Luke Mill of Westvaco, Inc. and a member of the Luke Local 676, UPIU and the Tri-Towns Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Carrie R. (Campbell) Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Brooks, Keyser; Mrs. Verda Thomas, Philadelphia; a foster daughter, Mrs. Laura Galloway, Piedmont; three brothers, Woodson Washington, Paul K. Washington and Harold Washington, all of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Mrs. Naomi Redman, of New York City; Mrs. Clementine Cells and Mrs. Genevieve Cray, both of Pittsburgh; 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home Westernport from 2 until 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Walden United Methodist Church by Rev. Sumner Sawyers. Rev. Lester Clifford and Rev. Henderson Wheeler.

Internment will be in Thorn Rose Cemetery, Keyser.

It seems to be as so that the birth numbers may be wrong, every other record says he was born in 1898.
