Preston was the son of Preston R. and Lucinda Coulter Phillips, and the husband of the former Margaret Kaetzel, who survived. He was also survived by children Janet Everhart, William and Marvin Phillips, six grandkids, and siblings Earl Phillips, Ruth Younkins, Bessye Mullendore, Maude Potter and Evelyn Miday.
Preston sold insurance in Brunswick. In his younger years, he played on that town's baseball team.
He was an active member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren and served on the building committee for the new church dedicated in 1960.
