Son of Emory and Lydia W. (Darling) Dunn.

On 29 Jul 1862 James, a farmer, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was 15 years, 7 months and 18 days old.

James and Henry W. Dunn, brothers, served together in Co. H of the 15th Massachusetts, and both died in service.

James died of disease on 7 Feb 1863 at Windmill Point, VA. He was 16 years, 1 month and 27 days old.

(Note: this is a cenotaph. All available records state that he was buried in Virginia without a headstone.)
