ANTONE UFKEN - Antone Ufken, a well known farmer of Montmerency passed away at his home Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. The deceased had been ill but for a short time. He was at first taken with the grip, which soon turned into pneumonia. The funeral services will be held at the house Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Reu, pastor of the German Lutheran church of Rock Falls, will officiate. Mr. Ufken was born in Oldenburg, Germany, October 31, 1831. He was married there and came to this country with his wife and family in 1865, settling first on a farm in Gap Grove. In January, 1866, Mrs. Ufken died. In the latter part of the same year Mr. Ufken was again married to Mrs. Charlotte Shultz, who still survives him. To this couple but one son was born, August. Mr. Ufken purchased a farm in Montmerency about 1870 and has made his home there ever since. He was kind and generous, honest in all his dealings and he counted his friends by the score. The following are the surviving children: John Ufken of Sterling; Henry Ufken, South Dakota; Mrs. B. J. Helms, Sterling; William Ufken, Montmerency; August Ufken, Montmerency. The following are the step-children: Julius Schultz, Rock Falls; Charles Schultz, of Iowa; and Robert and Frank Schultz, of LaMars, Iowa. All of the relatives have been sent for and it is expected that the most of them will be present to attend the funeral. The friends of the family ...... heartfelt sympathy of the entire community at this time.
