WILLIAM UFKIN DIES, FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY - SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK THURSDAY; LIVED HERE 36 YEARS
William Ufkin, 74, resident of Oshkosh township since 1903, died of a heart attack at the home of his son, John, with whom he made his home, Thursday of last week. Funeral services were conducted from the home and Zachaeus church Sunday afternoon.
Although inflicted with heart trouble for many years, Mr. Ufkin had been active. He had been cutting weeds on the farm Thursday when he became ill. His son brought him in his car and as he stepped from it he fell to the ground dead.
He was born in Whiteside county, Ill., July 11, 1865 and was baptized and confirmed there in the Lutheran faith. He was married to Anna Harms at Rock Falls, Ill., January 9, 1890, and four children were born to them. The family moved from Illinois to Oshkosh township in 1903.
His wife and one son preceded him in death. Mrs. Ufkin died about 16 years ago and Harm, his youngest son, died as the result of an automobile accident November 25, 1936. Surviving are Anton, John, and Mrs. Ernest Sillman (Mary), one sister in California, one half-brother in LeMars, Iowa, 12 grand children, and one great grand child.
Pallbearers were William Tesch, Fred Brogaard, John Schanning, Emil Heise, William Ochsendorf, and Charles Gritmaker. At the church services the choir sang "After the Toil and Trouble" and "Beyond the Light of the Setting Sun". Many floral offerings and memorial donations were made.
Those from away at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, Mrs. Louie Oltman and daughter, Marion, Mrs. Elmer Pierson, all of Rock Falls, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Ufkin of Marshall.
